Draped Evening Dress

Inspiration

The inspiration for this design is the feminine Imagination. Combining traditional feminine designs(corsetry, camisoles, and skirts) with whimsical and dream-like proportions & textures. Utilizing the ballerina motif to represent the strong grace that many of us dreamed of in our youth. This project allowed me to fulfill a childhood fantasy of embodying strength in femininity.

Design Techniques
  • Drafting corset and underskirt

  • Drafting outer skirt by positioning stiff paper to achieve silhouette

  • Bias seams to create multiple panels in the corset for immaculate fit

  • Each panel is flat-lined, features boning at each seam

  • Slash and spread pattern to create camisole's ruching effect

  • Silk carefully pleated and positioned atop the stiff base

  • Extended lace up detail featuring 70 hand-punched grommets
